It all started during the mid 90s. Every week at high school, I looked forward to sharing music with my skater and death rock friends. We’d exchange mixtapes with our favorite “alternative” bands to discover new music. I was big on bands like: Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction, Ride, Sugarcubes, Foetus, and Mary’s Danish. It wasn’t long before I started creating custom cassette covers for many of the mixtapes. I’d raid my parent’s old newspaper and magazine collections reserved to collect dust. With a sharp pair of scissors, I cut out block type faces, weird images, and blended them together with Elmer’s glue. This was pre-Photoshop at its finest.
